Ah, yes, another of my cheery poems. This one is not recent, just FYI, but I’ve never shared it before. The art in the featured image is courtesy of the Birmingham Museums Trust. It’s a painting by the artist Joseph Edward Southall, titled Sigismonda Drinking The Poison.
Poison
In the end it made me sick
You, me, us.
I stripped my clothes
And then I curled naked
Around a toilet bowl
And expunged
The lies
Yours and mine together
A last commingling
Of fluid
That wracked my body
with tremors
made me
Cry for hours
And then
Kept me in bed
For a day
Stunned
By my stupidity.
